I found this resource over at Budget Wedding Guide for predicting airfares to reduce costs at Farecast.com. Farecast predicts airline fares for any major routes, and then provides suggestions for the best time to buy.

Farecast is an interesting service but the one issue I have with it is that they don’t cover any of the discount carriers. I’ve found that an alternate site to find great airfare deals is http://www.airfarewatchdog.com. They manually search for the best fares across the airline’s own websites as well as discount carriers like Southwest and Skybus. Unfortunately, Farecast and others do not cover any of these, so you never know if you’re getting the best deal.
